Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinay Saxena has issued an order to announce a public holiday on 12 February. The notification issued by the General Administration Department states that on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, on the occasion of Guru Ravidas Jayanti, there will be a holiday in all government offices, autonomous bodies and public undertakings of the Delhi government.
The new order states that the banned holiday announced on the occasion of Guru Ravidas Jayanti in November 2024 has been canceled.
Who was Sant Ravidas?
Guru Ravidas was a popular saint of Sant Bhakti movement. He was born in Banaras, his name is recorded in medieval seekers. Sant Ravidas is also popular by the name of Raidas. Most people know him by the name of Raidas. Ravidas was a cobbler by profession. Raidas is a saint associated with the saint tradition of Ramanand. Raidas is considered prominent among the 12 disciples of Sant Ramanand.
