The Delhi High Court Jail will pronounce the verdict on Monday on the petition of Lok Sabha member Abdul Rashid Sheikh alias Rashid Engineer in which he has requested custody parole to participate in the Parliament session.
Justice Vikas Mahajan will pronounce his order on the petition of the MP of Baramulla at 2.30 pm. Rashid is facing trial in terrorism funding case. The judge reserved his order on Friday 7 February.
Rashid had earlier filed a petition in the High Court alleging that after being elected to the Lok Sabha last year, he was released in the balance after the National Investigation Agency (NIA) court considering his bail plea, because he was specially left, because he special MP/MLA is not a court. As an interim relief, he has requested to give custody parole.
The lawyer, appearing for the NIA, protested against the custody parole, saying that Rashid has no inherent right to appear in Parliament and has not shown any “specific objective” while seeking relief. The agency also expressed security concerns.
Rashid has been lodged in Tihar Jail here since 2019 after the NIA was arrested under the illegal activities (prevention) Act in the 2017 terror-funding case.
