The Home Ministry on Thursday appointed senior IPS officer Satish Golcha as the new Commissioner of Delhi Police. Golcha, a 1992 batch IPS officer, was currently posted as Director General (Prison) in Delhi.
The order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs said, “With the approval of the qualified authority, Mr. Satish Golcha, IPS (AGMUT: 1992), who is currently posted as Director General (Prison), Delhi, is appointed to the post of Delhi Police Commissioner. This appointment will be effective from the date of assuming post and will be implemented till the next order.”
Satish Golcha, SBK Will replace Singh. Singh was appointed by the Ministry of Home Affairs on 1 August.
This decision came at a time when Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was attacked on Wednesday during a weekly public hearing at her government residence in Civil Lines. The attacker Rajeshbhai Khimjibhai Sakariya was the 41 -year -old Rajeshbhai of Rajkot (Gujarat), who is an auto driver. He entered inside as a complainant and tried to attack, but the Chief Minister’s security team and others controlled him. An FIR has been registered against the accused in other sections including attempt to murder.
Who is Satish Golcha?
Satish Golcha has served in many important positions in Delhi Police. He has previously been DCP, Joint Commissioner and Special Commissioner. During the riots in North-East Delhi in 2020, he was a special commissioner (law and order) and came into the limelight due to his role.
From February 2022 to June 2023, he also served as Director General of Police (DGP) of Arunachal Pradesh. He was then called back to Delhi. In May 2024, he was given Lt. Governor V.K. Saxena appointed the head of Tihar Jail on the recommendation of the Police Establishment Board.
Now he has been given the command of Delhi Police.
