According to Delhi Police, around 2 pm on Sunday afternoon, information was received through PCR call about a fire in a two-storey building in Shakti Nagar under Roop Nagar police station. Station in-charge (SHO) Ramesh Kaushik immediately reached the spot along with other policemen. After reaching there, they saw that flames were coming out of the building and smoke was also filling the building. People are running here and there to save their lives. Two families living in the building where the fire broke out were able to escape, but the smoke was spreading to nearby buildings as well.
Smoke also started spreading in the four-storey building adjacent to the fire building, due to which most of the people in that building came out, but an elderly woman, 75, was trapped on the fourth floor. His daughter-in-law sought help from SHO Kaushik. The woman told that her mother-in-law is suffering from diabetes and cannot walk on her own. On hearing this, SHO Ramesh Kaushik, Head Constable Rajneesh and Constable Jitendra risked their lives and entered the smoke-filled building. The building’s lift was not working. SHO Kaushik and his two colleagues tied handkerchiefs on their faces and somehow reached the top of the stairs.

SHO Kaushik said that after reaching the top, we picked up the elderly woman and started bringing her down. The smoke was so heavy that we could not even see the stairs while descending but our aim was to get the elderly woman out safely and we were successful in doing so.
