South India superstar Kamal Haasan has once again been involved in controversies due to a controversial statement given about Kannada language. Following this statement, a minister in the Karnataka government Shivraj Tangdgi has warned that if Haasan continues to insult Kannada, all his films in the state will be banned.
Actually, Kamal Haasan recently said in a statement that Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada languages all have “originated from Tamil”. This comment was described by the Kannada -speaking community and reacted sharply on social media.
Karnataka minister Shivraj Tangadgi said in a statement, “The insult to the Kannada language will not be tolerated. Kamal Haasan is warned that if he keeps making such irresponsible statements, he will not back down from banning his films in the state.”
In the midst of this controversy, the protest has also intensified about Haasan’s recent film Thug Life, in which he is working with director Mani Ratnam. There is a demand for boycott in Karnataka on social media about the film.
At present, no formal cleaning has been given by Kamal Haasan on this dispute. However, this issue seems to be deepening about cultural identity between Tamil and Kannada speaking audiences.
