Aam Aadmi Party MP Raghav Chadha has said that according to the law, Arvind Kejriwal is entitled to a government residence. He said that according to the rules of the Election Commission, every national party is given an office in the country’s capital and a government residence to the national president/convenor of the party. Raghav Chadha said that there are a total of six national political parties in Delhi, out of which the presidents of 5 BJP, Congress, BSP, CMP (Communist Marxist Party) have been given government accommodation. In such a situation, the sixth national party AAP should also get accommodation.
What does the rule say?
Actually, as a former Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal is not entitled to get housing from the government. In May 2018, the Supreme Court had said that Chief Ministers cannot get a government bungalow after leaving the post. They should be treated like ordinary citizens. However, the president or convener of a national party is entitled to government housing. If he does not have any accommodation of his own or given by the government in Delhi.
