Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed happiness over the completion of 10 years of Digital India. He said that it has now become a mass movement. He wrote this in a blog on LinkedIn on 1 July 2025. Digital India started on 1 July 2015. Its purpose was to bring technology to every citizen.
Modi said, “Earlier people used to think that Indian technology cannot be used. We changed this thinking.” In 2014, India had only 25 crore internet connections. Today this number is more than 97 crores. Optical fiber added remote villages. The 5G network also spread rapidly. 4.81 lakh 5G base stations were installed in two years. High-speed internet also reached remote areas like Galwan, Siachen and Ladakh.
Digital India reduced the distance between the government and the people. UPI and Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) made digital payment easier. UPI handles about half of real-time digital transactions in the world. This also made small traders and farmers part of the digital economy.
Modi said that Digital India reduced the gap between the poor and the rich. Digital literacy increased. Government services were available online. Platforms like Mygav India increased people’s participation. India is now a big center of startup. The digital economy made a major contribution to the country’s GDP.
The Prime Minister spoke of the future. He said, “The next decade and transformative will be. We are moving from digital governance to global digital leadership.” He called upon innovators and entrepreneurs to make India the next center of digital revolution.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also praised Digital India. He said that this is the foundation stone of self -sufficient India. This initiative is now making India a reliable partner of technological innovation in the world.
