There was a lot of panic when a fire suddenly broke out in the engine compartment of the DMU passenger train going from Kishanganj to Siliguri. This incident happened near Faringora, about 200 to 250 meters from Kishanganj railway station. As soon as the information about the fire was received, the train was immediately stopped near Faringora near City Tegharia railway gate.
Passengers saved their lives by being smart
As soon as the fire broke out, all the passengers got off the train in panic and ran towards safer places. The passengers showed wisdom and did not allow any kind of stampede and got off the train peacefully and saved their lives.
Readiness of local people
The local people nearby informed the railway police, local police and fire department about the fire. Teams of the concerned departments reached the spot as soon as the information was received. SSB officers and jawans also reached the spot and helped in extinguishing the fire.
The fire was brought under control
The fire department team acted swiftly and brought the fire under control. The fire was extinguished in time, thus averting a major accident. At present, there is no report of any casualty in this incident.
Investigation continues
The railway administration has started investigating the causes of the incident. In the initial investigation, the possibility of technical fault is being suspected. Officials say that the real cause of the fire can be known only after a detailed investigation.
