IG Sundararaj of Bastar said that the way the campaign against the Naxalites started in 2024, the same strictness will continue in 2025 as well. So in such a situation, let us understand, what is the difference between Maoist and Naxalites?
What is Naxalism?
Naxalism or Naxalism is a movement, which started in India mainly in the name of fighting the rights of landless farmers, tribals and laborers. It started in 1967 from Naxalbari village in Darjeeling district of West Bengal, headed by leaders like Charu Majumdar and Kanu Sanyal. Leaders like Charu Majumdar and Kanu Sanyal raised the farmers against the landlords.
This movement spread to Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra. It consisted of poor and landless farmers, who were fighting a fight against oppression. Those who attended this movement came to be called Naxalites.
What is Maoism?
At the same time, Maoism is associated with the ideology of Maoism, the founder of modern China. This ideology talks about gaining power through violent rebellion and armed struggle. Maoism started in India during the Naxalite movement, when the Communist Party of India broke and a section went towards Maoist thinking. That is, Maoism is a fierce and armed movement to move beyond Naxalism.
Difference between Maoist and Naxalite?
The movement related to Maoism and Naxalism has been associated with violence, but there is one biggest difference between the two. Even though both are associated with communist ideology, the form of both is different. Naxalism was born in Naxalbari. At the same time, the birth of Maoism is associated with foreign political ideology. It is said that the Maoist ideology was encouraged in India after the war with China in the year 1962.
