According to media reports, Sunil Barthwal, Secretary, Ministry of Commerce in the Modi government, has informed the parliamentary panel about the tariff. Barthwal told the parliamentary panel that the Government of India has not yet expressed any commitment to the US about reducing the tariff.
The Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce has told the parliamentary panel that India has not made any promise to reduce the tariff to the US. Sunil Barthwal said that talks between India and America are still going on. There is no agreement on trade in both countries yet. Barthwal said that the government cannot say anything on the news about the claim of US President Trump and the media. The Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce also told the parliamentary panel that whenever there is an agreement on trade with America, India’s interests will be protected. He said that the government is trying to increase business between the two countries. Explain that India and the United States have appointed representatives in the past for the agreement on trade.
Earlier, when Trump claimed that India had agreed to reduce the tariff, then Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal in the Modi government went to America. Piyush Goyal lived in the US from March 3 to March 7 and held a meeting with several officers, including the Trump Government Commerce Secretary Howard Lutynik and America’s trade representative Jemisson Greer. Trump has already announced that he will impose reciperook tariffs on many countries including India. That is, the more tariff India takes on America’s product, the more tariff America will start taking.
