The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the doubling of the Tirupati-Pakla-Katapadi single railway line section (104 km) in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, which costs around Rs 1332 crore. Increased line capacity will improve mobility, which will increase the efficiency and service credibility of Indian Railways. The multi-tracking proposal will make operations easier and reduce congestion, which will lead to the necessary infrastructure development on the most busiest sections of the Indian Railways.
Project is in line with PM Modi’s vision
The project is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of new India, which will make the people of the region “self -reliant” through widespread development in the region, which will improve employment/self -employment opportunities for them. The project is the result of PM-mattress national master plan for multi-model connectivity, which has been possible through integrated scheme and will provide uninterrupted connectivity for the movement of people, goods and services. The project covering three districts of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu will increase the existing network of Indian Railways by about 113 km.
400 villages will benefit from this project
Along with connectivity to Tirumala Venkateswara Temple, the project section will also provide rail connectivity to other major sites like Shri Kalahasti Shiva Temple, Kanipakam Vinayak Temple, Chandragiri Fort etc., which attracts pilgrims and tourists from across the country. The multi-tracking project will increase connectivity for about 400 villages and about 1.4 million population. It is an essential route to transport items like coal, agricultural commodities, cement and other minerals etc. As a result of capacity enhancement work, additional freight of 4 MTPA (million tonnes per year) will be carried out.
