Ravana’s effigy
With the end of Navratri, the festival of Dussehra is being celebrated all over the country. Effigies of Ravana are being erected in the grounds of every city. Ravana Dahan will take place in the evening. The largest effigy of Ravana has been installed in Dwarka Sector 10 of Delhi. PM Modi has wished all the countrymen a happy Dussehra. PM Modi wrote, “Best wishes to the countrymen on Vijayadashami. With the blessings of Maa Durga and Lord Shri Ram, I wish you all get victory in every aspect of life.”
Rajesh Gehlot, organizer of Dwarka Shri Ram Leela Society, which installed the country’s largest effigy, says, “It took about 4 months to make this effigy of Ravana. The expenditure was around Rs 30 lakh. You will get to see the tallest and most beautiful effigy of Ravana in Dwarka. Will get it.”
President Murmu congratulated
President Draupadi Murmu on Friday extended his greetings to the countrymen on the eve of Vijayadashami and said the festival inspires to further strengthen our faith in high human ideals. The festival of Dussehra is also known as Vijayadashami and it symbolizes the victory of good over evil. The President said, “On the auspicious occasion of Vijayadashami, I extend my hearty congratulations and best wishes to all the citizens of the country. The festival of Vijayadashami symbolizes the victory of justice over injustice.” He said, ”This festival inspires us to further strengthen our faith in high human ideals.” Murmu said, ”With this festival There are many inspiring stories of dignity, responsibility towards duty, purity in conduct, humility and courageous struggle for justice. These stories should be our source of inspiration.” He wished that this festival of faith and enthusiasm brings success, prosperity and happiness to all.
Effigies are visible everywhere in Delhi
There is a lot of activity in the Delhi market. At some places the heads of demons and at other places their torsos and other body parts are seen arranged in rows. People are busy buying effigies. The famous area between Tagore Garden and Subhash Nagar is Asia’s largest market for effigies of the 10-headed Ravana and his brothers. These effigies are available in sizes ranging from one foot to 50 feet and are priced around Rs 400 to Rs 700 per foot. According to Ramesh Rathore, who is doing the work of making effigies for the first time, the money is not much, but it is enough. He has learned making mannequins from YouTube and has come here from Bengaluru.
Preparation for procession in Mysuru
Preparations have been made for a grand procession in Mysuru. The procession will mark the grand finale of the 10-day prestigious ‘Mysore Dussehra’ celebrations on the Chamundi hills. Dussehra or ‘Sharan Navratri’ celebrated as ‘Nada Habba’ (State Festival) was grand this year. Thousands of people are expected to witness the ‘Jambu Ride’. Under this, a procession of a dozen decorated elephants will be taken out under the leadership of an elephant named ‘Abhimanyu’. During this, the procession moves ahead by placing the idol of Chamundeshwari, the family deity of Mysuru city and its royal family, on a 750 kg pot or ‘Ambari’. The grand procession will begin with the worship of the ‘Nandi Dhwaj’ (Nandi flag) at the Balram gate of the palace by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah from the grand Amba Vilas Palace complex at the auspicious time between 1.41 pm to 2.10 pm.
