Earthquake tremors in Gujarat
According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), an earthquake of 3.6 magnitude struck Kutch district of Gujarat on the evening of Saturday, December 4. According to NCS, these earthquake tremors were recorded at 4.37 pm at a depth of 5 kilometers. NCS tweeted about this.
There was an earthquake on January 1 also
Institute of Seismological Research (ISR) had said that on Wednesday morning of January 1, an earthquake of 3.2 magnitude occurred in Kutch district of Gujarat. The district administration said there were no reports of any casualties or damage to property due to the earthquake. News agency PTI, citing Gandhinagar-based ISR, had said that the earthquake occurred at 10.24 am on Wednesday, whose epicenter was located 23 km north-northeast (NNE) of Bhachau. Last month, four seismic activities of greater than magnitude 3 were recorded in the region, including a magnitude 3.2 earthquake that occurred three days ago, whose epicenter was also near Bhachau.
There was an earthquake last month also
The ISR said an earthquake of magnitude 3.7 had hit the district on December 23 and a magnitude 3.2 earthquake on December 7. Last year on November 18, an earthquake of magnitude 4 occurred in Kutch. According to ISR data, earlier on November 15, an earthquake of 4.2 magnitude had occurred in Patan, North Gujarat.
Earthquakes keep coming in Gujarat
Gujarat is a high earthquake-risk area. According to Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority (GSDMA) data, nine major earthquakes have occurred here in the last 200 years, PTI reported. According to the GSDMA, the earthquake that hit Kutch on January 26, 2001 was the third largest in India in the last two centuries. And was the second most destructive earthquake. A large number of towns and villages in the district were almost completely destroyed in the earthquake, which killed about 13,800 people and injured 1.67 lakh others.
