Raids in Karnataka’s MUDA case

Bengaluru: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) team conducted raids in connection with money laundering related to alleged irregularities in the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) case. In this case, ED has registered a case against Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, his family members and others. Official sources gave this information. Sources said that the officials of the Federal Investigation Agency, who arrived with the central paramilitary force, are raiding the MUDA office in Mysuru and some other places. He said that no raid is being conducted on any premises of the Chief Minister or his family.

Scrutiny of MUDA Documents

According to sources, ED officials are examining the MUDA documents at the Mysuru office in the presence of officials. As part of their investigation they can seize necessary documents. The federal agency had filed an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) a few weeks ago to register a case against the Chief Minister and others, taking cognizance of the recent FIR lodged by the Lokayukta. The Chief Minister is facing allegations of irregularities in the allotment of 14 sites to his wife by MUDA. Siddaramaiah, his wife B.M. Parvathi, his brothers-in-law Mallikarjuna Swamy and Devaraju (from whom Swamy had bought the land and gifted it to Parvathi) and others are named in the FIR registered by the Mysore-based Lokayukta police on September 27.

In the MUDA site allotment case, the allegation is that MUDA had “acquired” the land of Siddaramaiah’s wife and in return allotted him 14 compensatory sites in a residential area of Mysuru (Vijayanagar Layout Phase III and IV), the property value of which was Rs. The location of their land was higher than that. MUDA had allotted plots to Parvati under the 50:50 ratio scheme in exchange for her 3.16 acres of land, where the residential layout was developed.

50 percent developed land allotted

Under the controversial scheme, MUDA had allotted 50 per cent of developed land to landowners in exchange for the undeveloped land taken from them under acquisition to create residential layouts. It is alleged that Parvati has no legal right on 3.16 acres of land situated in survey number 464 of Kasare village of Kasaba Hobli in Mysuru taluka. After the controversy started, Parvati had announced that she would return the allotted plot to MUDA. The Chief Minister denied allegations of any wrongdoing by himself or his family and said the opposition was “scared” of him. He had said that this was the first such “political case” against him.
