On July 16, Indian nurse Nurse Nimisha Priya, who hails from Kerala, has been announced to punish him in Yemen. As the death sentence is approaching, a strong wave of appeals is rising across India. From political leaders to social organizations – all are demanding immediate intervention from the central government, so that Nimisha Priya’s life can be saved.
On Thursday, Leader of Opposition in Kerala Legislative Assembly V.D. Satisan wrote a letter to President Draupadi Murmu and appealed for high -level diplomatic efforts in the matter. According to Indian media reports, he wrote, “I request you that 37 -year -old Indian nurse Nimisha Priya, who is a resident of Palakkad and whose hanging is near – you should intervene on humanitarian grounds in his case. This is a serious human crisis.”
Samuel Jerom Bhaskaran, a social worker located in Yemen and has been authorized by Nimisha’s mother to interact with the victim’s family, he has confirmed that attempts to apologize through blood money (diyat) are gaining momentum.
Speaking to a TV channel, Bhaskaran said, “The only option is to include the influential local leaders of Yemen, who can convince the family of the deceased to accept the apology.”
Bhaskaran appreciated the role of the Government of India
The Indian government has so far been important in avoiding the hanging of Indian nurse Nimisha Priya, trapped in Yemen. Social activist Samuel Jerom Bhaskaran, active in Yemen, said that if the Government of India had not intervened earlier, he would have been hanged long ago. ” He especially former Minister of State for External Affairs General V.K. Received a letter written by Singh, which he described as a critical turn. Bhaskaran said, “East efforts of the Government of India – especially due to the letter sent by General VK Singh, it has been possible to postpone the hanging so far.”
Government of India is the last hope
CPI (M) MP K.K. Radhakrishnan and John Britas made Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Foreign Minister S.K. A letter has been written to Jaishankar demanding quick and decisive diplomatic intervention in this matter. MP John Britas in his letter stressed that Save Nimisha Priya Action Council, which is a civilian campaign, is willing to give the full amount of blood money (Diat), if it is possible to compromise with the family of the deceased.
Of. Radhakrishnan wrote in the letter, “Nimisha’s mother and family are going through unbearable mental torture. His only hope is now on the steps taken by the Government of India.”
State level support also intensified in appeal to save Nimisha Priya
Emotional and political support has now intensified at the state level to save Indian nurse Nimisha Priya from hanging in Yemen. On Wednesday, Maryamma Omn Chandy, wife of former Kerala Chief Minister Omon Chandy, along with her son MLA Chandy Oman met Kerala Governor Rajendra Arlekar and demanded the active role of the state government in the matter.
Recalling the initial role of her late husband in this case, Maryamma said, “I want to fulfill his unfinished mission – to save Nimisha.” He appealed to the Governor to send a message to the central government that time is now getting out of hand.
Meanwhile, a hearing on a petition in the Supreme Court of India is scheduled on 14 July. The petition demanded the central government to activate all diplomatic channels with Yemen, and intervene to ban the hanging of Nimisha Priya.
What does the law of Yemen say?
Under Yemen’s Justice System:
If the family of the deceased is given ‘blood money’ (diyat) and they are apologized, then the death penalty can be forgiven.
But this process can only move forward through local influential leaders and mediators, as India does not have a direct embassy or formal diplomatic access in Yemen.
