Eight persons have been trapped inside as a part of the roof of the under -construction section under construction of the Srisailam Tunnel Canal Project in Telangana and the rescue operation to take them out. The state government gave this information.
Telangana irrigation minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy told reporters at the accident site in Nagarakurranul district, about 150 km from here, that the state government is seeking the help of experts, including people who save workers trapped in a similar incident in Uttarakhand last year.
He said that apart from this, the government is also taking help of Army and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). Two of the trapped people are engineers and two operators. There are four other laborers. All of them are from Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir.
Sources said that fresh air is being transported to the tunnel to ensure the safety of the trapped people. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Telangana Chief Minister A.K. Revanted Reddy called and took information about the incident and assured all possible assistance from the Center for the rescue operation.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday expressed concern over the incident of eight people getting stuck in it after a part of a tunnel collapsed in Nagarakurnul district of Telangana and hoped for their safety.
Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Gandhi, said in a post on ‘X’ that he has been told that the state government is making every effort to save the trapped people with the rescue parties.
He said, “I have been told that rescue operations are going on and the state government is making every effort to save people trapped with disaster relief parties.” There is a Congress government in Telangana.

A senior police official said that the team of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has reached the spot and a team of army personnel is reaching there.
