Amidst the opposition allegations of rigging in the Lok Sabha elections 2024, the Election Commission (ECI) said on Saturday that the right time to register complaints related to the voter list is the period of “claim and objections”, which is given before every election.
The Election Commission said in a press release, “In recent times some political parties and individuals have raised questions about the mistakes in the voter list. But these issues should have been raised when the draft electoral roll is published and claims and objections can be recorded in it. If the complaints came at that time, SDM/EROs (constitutional officers) could improve them.
The Commission said that after the draft voter list is published, its ** digital and print copy is given to all political parties and it is also available on the ECI website.
The Commission also said that after the final list is released, its copies are again given to all recognized parties and put on the website. He insisted, “The process of making voter list is completely transparent and runs under the law.”
The Election Commission also mentioned that “some political parties and their booth-level agents (BLAS) did not review the list in time and did not register objections then.” The Election Commission said that it always welcomes the investigation of the voter list by political parties and citizens as it helps in removing the mistakes in the list and making it clean.
On the other hand, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is constantly alleging that voter data has been disturbed and “vote theft” has taken place in Maharashtra, Karnataka and Haryana.
