The Election Commission has issued a formal letter stating that a press conference will be held at 3.30 pm at Vigyan Bhawan in the capital Delhi, in which the date of elections and counting of votes will be announced. Along with this, the date of UP by-election can also be announced today.
Maharashtra government’s tenure ends on 26th November
There are 288 assembly seats in Maharashtra while elections are to be held on 81 assembly seats in Jharkhand. According to the information, the tenure of the government is ending on 26th November in Maharashtra and on 29th December in Jharkhand. Every time the Commission implements the code of conduct 45 days before the end of the government’s term. However, if we look at the tenure of Maharashtra government, now only 40 days are left.
Dates will be announced keeping Diwali and Chhath in mind
Let us tell you that the Election Commission will announce the dates keeping in mind many festivals. Diwali is from 29 October to 3 November and Chhath Puja is celebrated in Jharkhand. During this time, Bihari voters working in Maharashtra go to their homes. Dev Diwali is also in November. Therefore, the Election Commission can start elections at the end of the second week of November. This will give time to the migrant voters to come back after the festivals.
When will the by-elections in UP and Wayanad?
The Election Commission is also expected to announce the dates of by-elections to be held in UP and Wayanad along with Maharashtra and Jharkhand. When the Central Election Commission had announced the dates of elections to be held in Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir, at the same time it had said that natural disaster has occurred in many states, due to which the date of by-elections cannot be announced yet. As soon as the situation becomes normal, the date of elections will be decided. In such a situation, there is a possibility that the Election Commission may announce the dates of by-elections along with the dates of assembly elections today.
