Two space agencies in the world have been at the center of discussion for some time. The first is American industrialist Elon Musk’s Space-X and the second is India’s ISRO. Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has successfully launched its most advanced communication satellite into space with the help of SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket. What is the specialty of satellite?
The Indian satellite launched by SpaceX is also known as GSAT N-2 or GSAT 20. The commercial satellite weighs 4,700 kg and is designed to provide broadband services to remote areas, as well as in-flight internet for passenger aircraft. This satellite was sent into space from the launch complex located in Cape Canaveral, Florida in America. Cape Canaveral has been leased by SpaceX to the US Space Force.
Why is this launch important?
The launch by SpaceX is the first such step between ISRO and SpaceX through New Space India Limited (NSIL). Also, this is the first satellite made by ISRO which uses advanced KA band frequency. Its radio frequency range is between 27 and 40 gigahertz (GHz), which provides high bandwidth. GSAT-N2 will increase the efficiency and coverage of broadband services in various regions of India.
Why did ISRO need SpaceX?
According to reports, currently, ISRO is short of rockets capable of launching payloads up to 4,700 kg. India’s launching vehicle LVM-3 has a carrying capacity of up to 4,000 kg. But the requirements of this launch exceeded ISRO’s capabilities. For this reason, SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket has been selected for this mission.
