Emergency landing of Indigo aircraft in Mumbai, engine malfunction; Flight was going from Delhi to Goa

An indigo aircraft going from Delhi to Goa had to make an emergency landing at the Mumbai airport on Wednesday evening, as it was diverted to the city due to the engine malfunction in the middle.

A source said that the aircraft, run by Airbus A320 Neo, had to make emergency landing at 9.52 pm. IndiGo said in a statement that the aircraft had to turn towards Mumbai due to technical fault.

The source said, “Indigo flight on the Delhi-Goa road was declared a complete emergency for 6 E-6271, as it was diverted to Mumbai due to engine failure.”

The Indigo spokesperson said, “On July 16, the technical fault was detected in flight number 6E6271 while flying from Delhi to Goa from Goa to Manohar International Airport. The aircraft was diverted to follow the procedures and landed at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai.”

The airline did not give information about the number of people on the aircraft or the nature of malfunction.

The spokesperson said, “Although the aircraft will be investigated and maintained before starting the operation, an alternative aircraft has been arranged to complete the journey, which will soon depart with customers.”

The Mumbai airport spokesman said in a statement that passengers were safely launched after the aircraft landed at 9.52 pm on Wednesday night and they were assisted by the employees at the terminal.

A Mumbai Airport spokesman said, “After the transformation of Delhi-Goa flight due to technical fault, on 16 July at 21:35 pm, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was declared a complete emergency at International Airport, Mumbai (CSMIA).”

He said that the aircraft landed safely at 9.52 pm and the complete emergency was removed at 9.57 pm. The spokesman said it had no effect on the overall airport operations.
