Engineer Rashid
The Delhi High Court has allowed Jammu and Kashmir MP Abdul Rashid Sheikh to take part in the existing session of Parliament “in custody” in a case related to Terror Funding. A bench of Justice Chandradhari Singh and Justice Anoop Jairam Bhambhani said that the police engineer Rashid will be taken to Parliament House every day between March 26 to April 4 and will be brought back to jail after the proceedings are over.
Not allowed to interact with mobile phone or media
The bench said that while staying out of jail, Rashid would not be allowed to use a mobile phone or landline or talk to the media. Rashid is facing trial under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in the 2017 terrorist financing case. He challenged the order of the lower court of March 10, under which he was refused to grant custody parole or interim bail by April 4 to participate in the Lok Sabha proceedings.
Sheikh Abdul Rashid, known as Engineer Rashid, is a Kashmiri separatist politician. He is currently a member of the Lok Sabha representing the Baramulla constituency in Jammu and Kashmir. He was released on interim bail to campaign during the assembly elections.
AIP leader expresses happiness
Awami Ittehad Party spokesperson Inam Un Nabi has welcomed the decision of the Delhi High Court, posting social media. Expressing happiness, he wrote, “Large wins of democracy! Delhi High Court allowed MP Engineer Rashid to participate in custody in the second part of the fourth session of the 18th Lok Sabha (26 March-4 April 2025). Despite all the obstacles, the voice of the people of North Kashmir will resonate in Parliament.”
