Fast bowler Chris Woakes was included in the 14 -man squad of England on Thursday for the first match of the five -Test series against India in Leeds on June 20.
In addition to taking 181 wickets in 57 Tests so far, 36 -year -old Vox, who scored 1970 runs, played an important role in England’s major victory in India during the Lord’s Test during the 2018 series.
Vox took four wickets in the match, besides scoring an unbeaten 137 runs, winning England by an innings and 159 runs.
Apart from Vox, fast bowler Josh Tung has been asked by England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to make necessary preparations before the Test starting on June 20. So both these players will play in the second informal Test of England Lions starting against India A from Friday in North Comment.
Jamie overton has been included in the Test team for the first time after making a Test debut against New Zealand in June 2022. However, he suffered a right -handed injury to a small finger of the right hand during the first ODI against the West Indies in Birmingham on 29 May.
The ECB has stated on its website that England’s medical team will assess and review the 31 -year -old overson injury to Chennai Super Kings in the recently concluded Indian Premier League.
The team of England will be commanded by Ben Stokes. The team consists of the only spinner as Shoaib Bashir who took nine wickets during the team’s victory in the only Test played against Zimbabwe in these summer.
The young batsman Jacob Bethel, who played for the current IPL champion Royal Challengers Bangalore, and the fast bowler Sama Cook, who made their debut against Zimbabwe, have also got a place in the team.
ECB said, “Durham’s fast bowlers Brideon Cars and Warvikashar’s Jacob Bethel and Chris Woakes have been included in the team.”
According to the statement, “Surrey’s Gas Atkinson recently was not available for selection due to league injury to the right toe muscles during the Test against Zimbabwe in Trentbridge recently.”
India will start its England tour from the first Test to be played in Handingley from 20 to 24 June while the second Test will be in Edgbaston from July 2 to 6.
The third Test will be played from 10 to 14 July at Lord’s, fourth from 23 to 27 July in Old Trafford and the fifth and final Test from 31 July to 4 August will be played at Oval.
Shubman Gill, the captaincy of India going through a change of change, is playing without the team Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli who announced his retirement from Test cricket in May. Spinner Ravichandran Ashwin also said goodbye to his Test career during the Australia tour last year.
Fast bowler Mohammed Shami was not selected for the tour due to lack of preparation.
