Lalu Prasad Yadav’s difficulties are going to increase once again. Along with Lalu, now his family also has a CBI grip. The CBI on Friday told a Delhi court that there is enough evidence to prosecute the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, his wife, son and others in a corruption case related to irregularities in the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC).
Evidence also against Rabri and Tejashwi
The CBI gave this argument in front of special judge Vishal Gogne, who started listening to the allegations against Lalu Prasad, his wife and former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi and son and former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav and others.
Case of criminal conspiracy, fraud and corruption
The allegations made in the case include criminal conspiracy, fraud and corruption, which can be sentenced to a maximum of seven years in jail. The court said, ‘Partial arguments have been heard by the CBI on the aspect of the charge. The date of March 20, 2024 is set by the CBI to present further arguments.
Court directed CBI
The court also directed the CBI to present the list of documents in the case. The court gave this order on a petition filed by senior advocate Maninder Singh, appearing for the three accused. The accused are currently out on bail. The case stems from alleged irregularities in giving contracts to a private company to operate two IRCTC hotels.
Conspiracy hatched between 2004 and 2014
According to the CBI charge sheet, a conspiracy was hatched between 2004 and 2014, under which BNR hotels of Indian Railways located in Puri and Ranchi were first transferred to IRCTC and later on lease to Sujata Hotels Private Limited for its operations, maintenance.
Rigged and manipulation in tender process
The agency alleged that the tender process was rigged and manipulated and the conditions were reshuffled to help Sujata Hotels. The charge sheet stars the then Group General Managers of IRCTC VK Asthana and RK Goel and Vijay Kochhar and Vinay Kochhar, both directors of the Sujata Hotel and the owners of Chanakya Hotel. Delight Marketing Company, now known as Lara Projects, and Sujata Hotels Private Limited has also been named as an accused company in the charge sheet. (With language input)
