Explosion on SN Banerjee Road in Kolkata: Explosion on SN Banerjee Road in Kolkata, garbage picker's hand blown off, BJP demands NIA investigation

New Delhi. A garbage picker has been injured in an explosion on Kolkata’s SN Road this afternoon, who has been identified as Bapi Das (58). It is being told that one of Bapi Das’s hands has been blown off and he has been admitted to NRS Medical College and Hospital. A large plastic bag has been found at the spot. Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) team and forensic team are investigating. At the same time, BJP has demanded the central government to get the incident investigated by NIA.

Union Minister and West Bengal BJP President Sukanta Majumdar has written a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah requesting a thorough investigation into the blast incident in central Kolkata. Addressing Home Minister Shah in his letter, Majumdar wrote, I urge you to consider a detailed investigation by the NIA or any other central agency to ensure a thorough investigation of all possible aspects related to the incident.

An eyewitness of the blast incident said, “When the blast happened we were standing nearby. We immediately ran towards the spot and saw that a garbage collector was lying nearby. That person was injured and one of his hands was blown off and was bleeding. A bag was lying near him. The garbage collector said that the blast happened from this bag.” Regarding this blast incident, Kolkata Police said that it is not yet clear what caused the blast. Something can be said only after a full investigation. At present, police and security agencies are on alert. After the investigation by the bomb disposal squad, traffic has been started in the area.
