Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar said during the BIMSTEC conference that today’s world wants such a global system that does not rest on the dominance of only a few countries, but also represents the ideas and needs of all. He said that we are living at the time where global politics, economy and security are being defined in a new way. In such a situation, it is necessary that the international system is more justly, multilateral and representing.
Jaishankar said this at a time when former US President Donald Trump has accused India that he is selling oil cheaply from Russia and selling countries like America at high prices. There was no direct response from India regarding these allegations, but this statement of Jaishankar explains the situation in India in many ways.
As part of the Bimstec i.e. Bay of Bengal, the multi-regional technical and economic cooperation initiative, Jaishankar also spoke about regional cooperation and inclusive development. He said that this is the time to unite the countries of Asia to create a stable, durable and flexible system, which not only fulfills the aspirations of the people of the region, but can also have an alternative approach on the global platform.
He said that India is committed to promote such a system through forums like Bimstec. Under this, trade, connectivity, technical cooperation and cultural partnership will be strengthened. This statement indicates that India no longer wants to be limited to bilateral relations, but it is moving towards a more similar, responsible and responsible global system through multilateral cooperation.
