The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) has strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir on 22 April 2025. 26 people, most of the tourists, were killed in this attack. FATF said that such attacks could not be possible without financial support and transfer. This statement emphasizes India’s effort in which it is trying to bring Pakistan back to the Gray list of FATF for terrorism financing.
The responsibility of this attack in Baisran Meado in Pahalgam was taken by the Resistance Front (TRF) associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba. India described it as proof of Pakistan -backed terrorism. In response to the attack, India on May 7 made accurate attacks on terrorist bases in Pakistan and POK under ‘Operation Sindoor’. FATF said in its statement, “Terrorist attacks kill people, spread fear. Pahalgam attack was not possible without money and transfer of money between supporters.”
FATF announced to increase the investigation into the effectiveness of the countries to crack down on terrorism financing and soon issued a detailed report on terrorism financing, including state -sponsored terrorism. India is carrying out this attack on global forums, and 1267 Sections Committee of UNSC has been informed on TRF’s ACUMLIs.
Pakistan has denied its role in the attack, but India claimed with evidence that the attackers were trained in Pakistan. This rare condemnation of FATF is a strong message for the international community that strict action against terrorism is necessary. India suspended Indus Water Treaty after this attack and closed the Attari-Wagah border.
The case can prove to be a significant turn for global cooperation against regional security and terrorism. India’s diplomatic efforts and FATF action may increase pressure on Pakistan.
