Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader Ambadas Danve on Thursday said that the Maharashtra government should first arrest the absconding accused in the murder case of Sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh and then say that it will not spare any criminal.
The leader of opposition in the state Legislative Council targeted the Devendra Fadnavis government as an accused in the murder case is absconding even after a month of the incident.
Danve, in a post on
Santosh Deshmukh, sarpanch of Masjog village in Beed district, was abducted, tortured and killed on December 9.
The murder reportedly resulted from his efforts to stop extortion against an energy company involved in a windmill project.
Police have so far arrested seven people in this case. One accused is still absconding. Maharashtra minister Dhananjay Munde’s aide Valmik Karad has been arrested in an extortion case.
Taking aim at the government, Danve said that a month has passed since the murder of the sarpanch but the sixth accused (23) in this case has not been caught by the police yet.
On the other hand, despite public demand, the state government is not asking for resignation from Minister Dhananjay Munde.
In another case, family members of Somnath Suryavanshi, a Dalit man who died in judicial custody in Parbhani last month, refused to take assistance of Rs 10 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
Taking aim at the state government on this matter too, Danve said in another post on ‘X’ that Suryavanshi’s family members are demanding justice, not financial assistance, as they claim that Suryavanshi’s killers are roaming freely.
Suryavanshi (35) died in judicial custody. He was arrested in December last year in connection with the violence in Maharashtra’s Parbhani city over the insult to a replica of the Constitution kept in a glass box.
