Former Punjab DGP Siddharth Chattopadhyay claimed on Friday, June 27, 2025 that Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia has 100% evidence of alliances and financial benefits with drug smugglers. He told reporters after meeting the Punjab Vigilance Bureau officials in Chandigarh that a case was registered against Majithia under the NDPS Act in 2021 as his DGP. Chattopadhyay said, “We had strong evidence, including documents, sources and backgrounds. I gave this information to Vigilance so that they could conduct the correct check.”
He said that these evidence was gathered during the 2012-2017 SAD-BJP government, but at that time action was not taken due to the influence of Majithia. Chattopadhyay said, “Many evidences were destroyed, because then there was a government of Majithia.” He also mentioned the report of SIT set up by the High Court in December 2017, which contains details of the alliance of Majithia. However, the former DGP clarified that he did not formally record the statement, but gave reference and information to the investigating officers.
The Vigilance Bureau has initiated an investigation into a ratioless assets case of Rs 540 crore against Majithia, who was recently arrested in the case of drug money laundering. Chattopadhyay’s statement can pose a new debate in this case.
