ED summons Azharuddin.
ED had issued summons to former Indian cricket team captain and Congress leader Mohammad Azharuddin to appear before him on October 3. According to the information, Azharuddin did not appear before the ED today. Let us tell you that Azharuddin was asked for questioning and to record his statement in the money laundering case related to alleged financial irregularities in Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA). However, the former cricketer has sought more time from the agency. The money laundering case pertains to three FIRs and charge sheets filed by the Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau in connection with alleged criminal misappropriation of Rs 20 crore in HCA.

According to sources, ED has issued a fresh summons to Azharuddin and called him for questioning on October 8. Let us tell you that Azharuddin is the former captain of the Indian cricket team and he is currently the leader of the Congress Party. Last year he had contested the assembly elections, but lost. Azharuddin also became an MP by winning from Moradabad Lok Sabha seat of Uttar Pradesh in 2009.
What is the whole matter?
According to the information, this case is related to the alleged misappropriation of Rs 20 crore allotted for the purchase of diesel generator, fire brigade system and canopy for the Rajiv Gandhi Cricket Stadium in Uppal, Hyderabad. ED is investigating the same case and Mohammad Azharuddin was called for questioning today but he did not appear and sought additional time.
There was a raid last year
ED is continuously investigating the case of alleged financial irregularities in Hyderabad Cricket Association. ED had also raided the premises of former HCA officials in November last year in this case. According to sources, Azharuddin’s role during his tenure as HCA president is also under the ED’s scanner.
