Shaktikanta Das
New Delhi: Former RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das has been appointed as Principal Secretary-2 of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. When Shaktikanta Das became the Governor of RBI, he replaced Urjit Patel. Das was considered special to the then Finance Minister Arun Jaitley. Jaitley praised him on several occasions. It is believed that Shaktikanta Das also played an important role in the team which worked on this subject before the PM’s decision to demonetisate on 8 November 2016. Shaktikanta Das on demonetisation matters was highlighted during a conversation with the media on all occasions. His image has been as a knowledgeable officer.

Who is Shaktikanta Das?
Shaktikanta Das was born on 26 February 1957. He is a postgraduate from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University. He has done his MA in history. He is the IAS officer of Tamil Nadu cadre. He has also worked as India’s Economic Affairs Secretary, India Revenue Secretary and India’s Fertilizer Secretary.
Shaktikanta Das has widespread experience in various regions of governance and has served important positions in the central and state governments in the areas of finance, tax, industry etc. During his long term in the Ministry of Finance, Government of India, he has been directly associated with preparing 8 Union Budgets.
When P. Chidambaram was the Finance Minister, Shaktikanta Das was first appointed as Joint Secretary in 2008. Shaktikanta Das has also worked as an alternative governor of India in the World Bank, Asian Development Bank (ADB), New Development Bank (NDB) and Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). He has represented India in international forums such as IMF, G20, BRICS, SAARC, etc.
