New Delhi. The statue of the Goddess of Justice installed in the courts will no longer be blindfolded. Supreme Court Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud has changed this age-old tradition started by the British. According to the order of CJI, from now on no statue of the Goddess of Justice will be blindfolded. Not only this, the book of the Constitution has now replaced the sword in the left hand of the statue. Whereas the right hand has the same scales as before. This new statue of the Goddess of Justice has been installed for the first time in the library built for judges in the Supreme Court.

Actually, this statue was brought to India by a British officer in the 17th century. That British officer was working in the judicial department. The statue of the Goddess of Justice was publicly installed during the 18th century during the British period. Even after this, when India became independent, no changes were made in this statue of the Goddess of Justice. From then till now, the statue of the Goddess of Justice, blindfolded, with a sword in one hand and scales in the other, is installed in every court of the country. However, being blindfolded means impartiality as it is believed that the goddess of justice judges impartially without anyone seeing.
