The main accused in the gold smuggling case, Kannada actress Ranya Rao’s father has been sent on mandatory leave. Ramchandra Rao, DGP of Karnataka State Police Housing Corporation, has been forcibly sent on leave. Additional Director General of Police, KV Sharat Chandra, Additional Director General of Recruitment Department, has been given the concurrent charge of the post of Chairman and Managing Director of Karnataka State Police Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited, Bengaluru with immediate effect.
Kannada actress and half -daughter of Ramchandra Rao, Ranya Rao, is the main accused in the gold smuggling case. He filed a bail petition in the Sessions Court on Saturday after his bail plea was rejected in the Economic Offenses Court on Friday.
Ranya accused of assault
Ranya Rao alleged that the Revenue Intelligence Directorate (DRI) officials assaulted her and forced her to sign some of the vacant and already written papers. Ranya, in a letter written to Additional Director General of DRI in Bengaluru, in a letter written on March 6, claimed that a false case had been imposed on him. He said in the letter that on returning from Dubai, he was wrongly accused of carrying more than 14 kg of gold.
What did Ranya say?
Harshvardhini Ranya, known as Ranya Rao, alleged, “Your officials did not allow me to tell me that I am innocent in this matter.” The actress claimed that she was slapped 10 to 15 times until she was detained to appearing in court. He alleged, “Despite repeated assault and slapping, I refused to sign the statement prepared by him (DRI officials).” Ranya also alleged that he was forced to sign 50 to 60 and about 40 vacant pages already written.
Threatened to reveal father’s name
The actress claimed, “One of the officials told me that if she does not sign, she will reveal my father’s name and identity, even if we know that she is not involved in it.” Ranya Director General of Police Rank Officer K.K. Ramchandra Rao has a step daughter. Ramchandra Rao is currently working as the Managing Director of Karnataka State Police Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation. Ranya has also acted in many films including ‘Manikya’.
Gold rods were found near Ranya on March 3
The DRI had earlier reported in a press release that gold rods worth Rs 12.56 crore were seized from Ranya at Kamphegowda International Airport on March 3. According to the release, after searching Ranya’s residence, the authorities also recovered gold jewelery worth Rs 2.06 crore and cash worth Rs 2.67 crore.
