Parliamentary committees formed
New Delhi: The Central Government has constituted 24 parliamentary committees. Congress’s Shashi Tharoor has been made the chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs while Digvijay Singh has been made the chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Women, Education, Youth and Sports. Ram Gopal Yadav has been made the chairman of the Health Committee and Radha Mohan Das Aggarwal has been made the chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Defense Affairs. Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has been made a member of the Parliamentary Committee on Defense Affairs. Bhartrihari Mahtab has been made the chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Finance.
Whereas BJP MP Nishikant Dubey has been made the chairman of the Communication and IT Committee. BJP MP from Mandi Kangana Ranaut has got a place as a member in this committee. BJP leader CM Ramesh has been made the chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Railway Affairs.

TMC and DMK have chaired two committees each, while JDU and SP have chaired one committee each. Rajeev Pratap Rudy has been made the chairman of the standing committee related to the Water Resources Ministry. Yusuf Pathan has been made a member of the standing committee associated with the Commerce Ministry and Harbhajan Singh has been made a member of the Standing Committee associated with the Education Ministry. Charanjit Singh Channi has been made the chairman of the standing committee attached to the Agriculture Ministry.
What is the Standing Committee of Parliament?
Standing Committees of Parliament are such committees formed within the Parliament which study in depth the matters related to a particular subject or ministry. Its members are MPs from different parties. These committees help in carrying out the main functions of the Parliament more efficiently. Parliamentary committees study the bills introduced by the government in detail and make suggestions for improvements in them. Many times the help of the Standing Committee of Parliament is also taken to resolve the deadlock between the pros and cons on some issue or bills.
