Increase in government hospital fees.
The Karnataka government has increased the fees of hospitals in the state in a big way. In Karnataka, treatment and diagnostic tests have become costlier by 20 percent in hospitals under the Medical Education Department. Fees for many services have also doubled. The increased fees have come into effect in hospitals under Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute (BMCRI) and various autonomous medical education institutions in Karnataka. What did the officials tell?
BMCRI officials informed TOI that the fees for treatment, surgery, various blood tests and scans have been revised. Officials argue that the last revision in fees took place 5-6 years ago. This increase will help in the maintenance of hospitals. Officials have called it a minor fee increase. He said that not all tests and treatments are 20% more expensive, some blood tests are still free.
Where and how much were the fees increased?
According to TOI, after the revision in fees, the fee for special ward (2 patients) has been increased from Rs 750 to Rs 1,000. The fee for single bed special ward has been increased from Rs 750 to Rs 2,000. General ward fees have increased from Rs 15 to Rs 20. OPD registration fee has doubled from Rs 10 to Rs 20.
According to the amended rules, inpatient registration fee has been increased from Rs 25 to Rs 50 and patient bed fee has been increased from Rs 30 to Rs 50. The fee for post-mortem, medical examination, injury and physical fitness certificate has been increased from Rs 250 to Rs 300. The price of Medical Board Certificate has now increased from Rs 350 to Rs 500. Apart from this, new charges of Rs 50 for diet advice and Rs 100 for diet related advice have been added.
