The government said on Thursday that a multi-disciplinary team headed by the head of the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau of Investigation (AAIB) is investigating the Ahmedabad aircraft accident and data is being extracted from the aircraft’s black box.
Air India’s Boeing 787-8 aircraft, going to London Gatwick soon after flying from Ahmedabad on 12 June, crashed in a medical hostel complex, killing more than 270 people, including 241 people aboard the aircraft.
After the unfortunate accident of Air India Flight AL-171, AAIB immediately initiated an investigation and formed a multi-disciplinary team on 13 June 2025 as per the prescribed criteria.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation said in a statement on Thursday, “The team constituted according to the International Protocol is being headed by the Director General AAIB and includes an aviation medical expert, an ATC officer and representatives of the National Transport Safety Board (NTSB), which is a state -run agency of the state (America) of manufacturing and design, which is necessary for such investigation.”
The ministry also said that on the evening of 24 June, the team started the data extraction process with technical members of AAIB and NTSB under the leadership of AAIB Director General GVG Yugandhar.
It said, “The Crash Protection Module (CPM) was safely evacuated from the front black box, and on June 25, 2025, the memory module was successfully accessible and its data was downloaded to AAIB Lab.”
The statement said, “Analysis of CVR (Cockpit Voice Records) and FDR (flight data recorder) data is underway. These efforts aim to re -create the sequence of incidents causing accidents and identify factors contributing to such incidents in future.”
