On 14 June, in a successful joint campaign, the Southern Command Military Intelligence Unit and Kondhwa Police Station of Pune City Police arrested four illegal Bangladesh migrants living in a labor camp near Punyadham Ashram Road in Notting Hill Society in Pune.
The operation was performed by the Military Intelligence Department on 13 June after receiving specific intelligence about the presence of illegal foreign nationals at a labor site in Kondhwa area.
On the basis of information, a team was formed with the local police and a sudden raid was conducted at the scene. During the verification process at the construction site, four persons attempted to flee, but the joint team immediately caught them. After interrogation and investigation of documents, they were identified as Bangladeshi citizens living illegally in India.
Those arrested have been identified as Swapna Mandal (39), Mithun Kumar Santal (35), Ranodhir Mandal (29) and Dilip Mandal (38). The four people hail from Satkhira district of Bangladesh, who share screenshots with India and are caught to cross the illegal border in the past.
Officials confirmed that the arrested persons would be further interrogated so that their entry routes, the duration of the stay and any labor racket or their possible involvement in the large infiltration network could be detected.
Pune City Police has registered a case under Section 14 of Foreign Act, 1946, Section 3 and 6 of Passport Act and Passport (Admission to India) Act, 1950 at Kondhwa Police Station. Further investigation in the case is going on.
