The Indian Medical Association of Gujarat State Branch wrote a letter to the chairman of Tata Sons on Friday, requesting to increase assistance for the injured and dead medical students after a plane crash at the BJ Medical College campus in Ahmedabad.
In a letter to Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran, IMC said, “We express my heartfelt gratitude for your liberal support for the declaration of Air India for compensation of Rs 1 crore to the families of travelers who have lost their lives in the recent incident on behalf of the Indian Medical Association – Gujarat State Branch.
The letter stated, “We politely request you to consider providing financial assistance and necessary assistance to those medical students present at the accident site, who were injured in this unfortunate incident or lost their lives.”
The letter states, “These people were not only suffering, but also the future columns of our healthcare system, and their goodness and families also require similar care and help. Accordingly, we request you to declare the same assistance immediately to the medical students who were injured or lost their lives. We hope that you will consider this request.”
Meanwhile, the Air India aircraft to London crashed on June 12, in which 241 people were killed out of 242 people.
A division under the Ministry of Civil Aviation AAIB is responsible for the investigation of aircraft accidents in India. The order issued by the Ministry of Nign Aviation said, “The committee will examine the current standard operational procedures (SOPs) and guidelines issued to prevent and deal with such incidents and will suggest extensive directions to deal with such incidents in future.
The order clarified that, “The committee will not be an alternative to other investigations being conducted by relevant organizations, but will focus on preparing the standard operation process (SOP) to prevent and deal with such incidents in future.”
According to the ministry, the committee will get access to all relevant records including flight data, cockpit voice recording, aircraft maintenance log, air traffic control records and testimony of witnesses. The panel is expected to submit its report within three months. The committee is chaired by the Union Home Secretary and consists of representatives of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Indian Air Force and Aviation experts.
