Congress leader Rashid Alvi on Saturday questioned the arrest of party leaders and father-son duo Heera Jotwa and Digvijay Jotwa regarding the alleged MNREGA scam. Alvi said that if the scam has actually taken place, action should be taken, but the possibility cannot be denied that they are being pressurized to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Alvi said, “Action should be taken against them if such a scam has taken place. However, we cannot trust the governments of Gujarat and India. There is a possibility that they are being pressurized to join the BJP. The court will decide what is right and what is wrong.”
Earlier on Saturday, the police arrested three accused, including Gujarat Congress vice -president Heera Jotwa and his son Digvijay Jotwa, in the alleged MNREGA scam.
Bharuch Superintendent of Police (SP) Mayur Chavda said that the survey of 11 villages revealed that government funds have been rigged, after which the arrest was made.
SP Chavda told reporters, “As soon as there was doubt about illegal work in MNREGA, Bharuch DDO started primary inquiry into 56 villages. They surveyed 11 villages and found that government money had been rigged. They complained to the police and filed a complaint about fake documents, illegal rigging and conspiracy of government funds.”
He said that the 60:40 ratio of the material used in MNREGA was not maintained. He said, “An SIT was formed under the supervision of the Deputy Superintendent of Police. Investigation was done and the team visited the place where the work was not done properly. It was found that it was found that the material used did not match the attached bills; Secondly, the 60:40 ratio was not maintained. The owners of Jalaram and Murlidhar agencies are absconding, whose details are there and found that many more people are involved.”
In addition, he told reporters that Heera Jotwa was running agencies in the name of someone else, and the money was transferred to his relative’s account.
