New Delhi: The name of the new Chief Election Commissioner has been announced. Dnyanesh Kumar will be the new Chief Election Commissioner. He will replace Rajiv Kumar. This information has been given by the Law Ministry.
Who is Dnyanesh Kumar?
Gyanesh Kumar was nominated as Election Commissioner in March last year. He will replace the current Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar. Dnyanesh Kumar will oversee the elections to be held in Bihar assembly elections and next year in Bengal, Assam and Tamil Nadu next year.
Gyanesh Kumar, a 1988 batch IAS officer of Kerala cadre, is senior to two commissioners in the three -member panel, headed by Rajiv Kumar till his office was left this morning. The panel is in the second commissioner Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, who is an officer of Uttarakhand cadre.
Dr. Vivek Joshi new Election Commissioner
Dr. Vivek Joshi, a 1989 batch IAS, has been appointed as the Election Commissioner, which will be effective from the date of taking charge of his office.
Rajiv Kumar took over in the year 2022
The current Chief Election Commissioner, Rajiv Kumar took over the charge in the year 2022. Under his leadership, the Election Commission conducted the Lok Sabha elections in 2024. Apart from this, assembly elections were held in many states. These include elections for Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra, Haryana, Karnataka, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand and the Delhi Assembly held this year.
Meeting was held in PM office
A meeting was held on Monday in the PM office regarding the selection of the new Chief Election Commissioner (CEC). This meeting was held by the 3 -member committee headed by PM Modi and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi also attended it. The Congress had suggested to the government on the selection of the CEC that the meeting should be postponed till the hearing in the Supreme Court.
