Chandigarh. The results of Haryana Assembly Elections 2024 are to come on Tuesday, October 8. BJP is in power in Haryana for the last 10 years. At the same time, Congress, which is continuously improving its performance, is hopeful that this time it will return to power in Haryana. The results of all the exit polls are also showing that Congress can get the 46 seats required for majority in the 90 seat Haryana Assembly. So far, no party has formed the government in Haryana for the third consecutive time. If BJP once again gets majority, it will create a new history in Haryana.
In the 2014 assembly elections in Haryana, BJP had got 47 seats. That year, BJP got 33.4 percent votes in the Haryana Assembly elections. At the same time, Congress could get only 20.7 percent votes and only 15 of its MLAs were elected in the Haryana Assembly. Talking about the 2019 Haryana Assembly elections, the vote percentage of Congress increased by about 7 percent to 28 percent. On the basis of this, Congress had captured 31 seats in Haryana last time and BJP could win only 40 seats i.e. 6 less than the majority by securing 36.5 percent votes. If we look at the Lok Sabha elections held in 2024, BJP’s vote percentage in Haryana was 46.1 percent. Whereas, in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP got the support of 58 percent voters in Haryana.
In the Lok Sabha elections, Congress won 5 seats and BJP won 5 seats in Haryana. Whereas, in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP had won all the 10 Lok Sabha seats of Haryana. The issues of farmers’ movement, recruitment of Agniveer in the army and sexual harassment of wrestlers had weighed heavily on the BJP in the Lok Sabha elections in Haryana. This time too, the same issues mainly dominated the Haryana Assembly elections. In its election promises, Congress has talked about giving some amount to women every month, free treatment up to Rs 25 lakh and guaranteeing MSP to farmers. At the same time, BJP has made promises like free LPG cylinders on festivals, increasing MSP and giving some amount to women. Now the votes recorded in EVMs on Tuesday will tell whether the people of Haryana support the promises of Congress or express their trust in BJP only.
