Hathras stampede: UP cabinet approves judicial report, likely to appear in budget session

The judicial report of the 2024 Hathras stampede incident has been submitted to the state government and it is likely to be presented in the assembly in the current budget session. About 121 people lost their lives in this incident.

This decision was taken after the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet approved the submission of the report to the assembly.

On July 2, 2024, about 121 people, including women and children, were killed when a stampede in ‘Satsang’ organized by Swayambhu Baba Bhole Baba alias Suraj Pal in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh. The incident took place in Phulari village in the district.

According to reports, more than two lakh devotees gathered at the event, while permission was given to attend only 80,000 people.

Uttar Pradesh Police has prepared a 3200 -page charge sheet against 11 people related to the stampede incident in Hathras. However, according to defense counsel AP Singh, the charge sheet does not mention Suraj Pal alias Bhole Baba, who organized ‘Satsang’ in Hathras.

On July 12, the Supreme Court refused to consider a public interest petition seeking to direct the appointment of a five -member expert committee under the supervision of a retired apex court judge to investigate the Hathras stampede incident.

Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud’s bench said that it is a disturbing incident, but it cannot consider the petition as the High Court is capable of dealing with the case.

This asked the petitioner to take his petition to the High Court.

The bench told Advocate Vishal Tiwari, who filed a PIL, “There is no need to come to the Supreme Court for everything under Article 32. You can go to the High Court. They are strong courts. Of course, it is a disturbing incident Is.”

The petition demanded the committee to suggest and prepare guidelines and security measures to avoid such incidents in large public functions.

The petition demanded the state of Uttar Pradesh to submit a status report before the apex court in the Hathras stampede incident and to initiate legal action against individuals, officers and employees for careless conduct.

It had requested the apex court to direct all the state governments to issue guidelines to prevent stampede or other incidents for the safety of the public during any religious event or other function. People gather in.
