Lucknow: There is a hearing in the Supreme Court today in the recruitment case of 69 thousand teachers of UP. The Supreme Court had stayed the decision of the High Court to release the new recruitment list. Hearing on this matter will be held today on the petition of selected candidates of general category. This case is going on in the Supreme Court since October.
A hearing of this case has taken place before the bench headed by the CJI. Since then dates are being imposed on it. Before Diwali, the next date in this case was proposed to be 15th November. But now this hearing will take place today. The bench of Justice Dipankar Dutta and Prashant Kumar Mishra will hear this case.
What is the whole matter?
UP government had recruited teachers for 69 thousand posts. Its examination was held in January 2019. After the examination, the candidates were given jobs as per the cutoff. The cutoff for General was 67.11%, while the cutoff for OBC was 66.73%.
Actually, the teacher candidates said that there has been a scam in this recruitment on 19 thousand seats and while giving their stand regarding this, they had claimed that OBC should have got 27 percent reservation in this recruitment, but instead of that, only 3.86 percent. Got reservation. Similarly, SC category should have got 21 percent reservation, but instead it got only 16.6 percent reservation.
In this matter, a complaint was made in the High Court and National Backward Commission. The High Court ordered to make a fresh list. The Supreme Court stayed the HC’s decision and a hearing on this matter is scheduled.
Students allege that the quota for OBC is 27%, while only 3.86% reservation was given. SC quota is 21 percent, while 16.6 candidates got jobs.
What is the timeline of UP teacher recruitment case?
5 December 2018: Notification released for recruitment of 69 thousand assistant teachers. 6 January 2019: Recruitment examination was held, in which 4.10 lakh candidates took part. 12 May 2020: Result of UP 69000 teacher recruitment released. 1.47 lakh candidates passed. The cutoff for general category was 67.11% and the cutoff for OBC was 66.73%. May 2020: A petition was filed in the single bench of the High Court alleging non-compliance of reservation rules. March 13, 2023: Single bench asked to reconsider the merit list but also made some comments regarding the rules of reservation. 13 August 2024: The double bench of the High Court canceled the decision of the single bench and ordered to issue a new merit list following the rules of reservation. 9 September 2024: The Supreme Court stayed the decision of the Lucknow bench.
