‘Orange alert’ was issued in Delhi amid rain in the national capital and surrounding areas on Friday. Traffic was affected in many areas due to rain. The Meteorological Department has predicted more rain for the day. Traffic was affected in many areas of South, Central and North Delhi due to rain.
The Meteorological Department said that rain started in Delhi-NCR (National Capital Region) at around 2.30 am. The Safdarjung observatory, the primary weather station in the national capital, recorded 9.1 millimeters (mm) of rainfall, according to data released by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) till 11:30 am. Palam observatory recorded 8.4 mm of rain, Lodhi Road 10.8 mm, Ridge 9 mm, Delhi University 11 mm and Pusa 9.5 mm.
Meteorological Department officials said that due to the active western disturbance and its interaction with easterly winds, light to moderate rain and thundershowers are continuing over northwest and central India including Delhi, National Capital Region (NCR). The Meteorological Department has predicted light to moderate rain during the day and has issued an ‘Orange Alert’.
Minimum temperature 11 degrees Celsius
The minimum temperature in the national capital was recorded at 11 degrees Celsius, which was 2.8 degrees above normal. According to Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data, the air quality at 9 am was recorded in the ‘very poor’ category at 372. The 24-hour air quality index (AQI) was recorded at 345 at 4 pm on Thursday. AQI is rated between zero and 50 as ‘good’, 51 and 100 as ‘satisfactory’, 101 and 200 as ‘moderate’, 201 and 300 as ‘poor’, 301 and 400 as ‘very poor’ and 401 and 400 as ‘poor’. Between 500 is considered ‘severe’.
