Red alert of rain continues in Kerala
Kozhikode: The Indian Meteorological Department on Tuesday issued a red alert for four districts of North Kerala including Wayanad, as heavy rains continue in various parts of the region. According to officials, extensive waterlogging has been reported in many urban centers, which has greatly affected daily life and transport in northern Kerala. A red alert has been issued for the districts of Kasargod, Kannur, Wayanad and Kozhikode, while Orange Alert has been issued for Palakkad, Malappuram and Thrissur.
Red alert of rain in four districts
IMD has also issued a yellow alert for Idukki, Ernakulam, Kottayam, Alappuzha and Pathanamthitta districts. According to the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority, the districts where a red alert has been issued is likely to have “extreme heavy rainfall”, which means more than 204.4 mm of rainfall within 24 hours. Different areas of orange alert districts are expected to have “very heavy rainfall”.
There is also a possibility of floods and landslides due to rain
KSDMA officials have warned that extreme heavy rains can cause severe problems. There is a possibility of heavy rainfall in a short time, which can cause sudden floods and landslides. There is also a possibility of waterlogging in urban and low -lying areas. He said, “As the rain continues, the chances of landslides may increase, especially in the hilly areas.” The officials have urged the public and government departments to take extreme care.
This advice given to people
Officials have also issued security advice, in which people living in hilly areas facing heavy rains, especially landslides, sudden flood -risk people have been urged to move to safe places as soon as possible during the daylight. He said that residents living in low -lying areas with waterlogging should assess the situation and go to nearby relief camps or safe shelters if necessary.
