New Delhi. A helicopter being taken for repair work in Kedarnath crashed on the Gauchar airstrip on Saturday, 31 August. This damaged helicopter was being airlifted from Kedarnath to Dehradun by a MI-17 aircraft, but during the flight, the helicopter’s tow chain broke and it fell down. There is no news of any casualty in this incident.

The helicopter crash caused major damage

The helicopter shattered after falling from the sky, pictures of which have also surfaced. It is noteworthy that this helicopter had a technical fault on 24 May 2024, due to which it had to make an emergency landing.

Giving information about the incident, District Tourism Officer Rahul Chaubey said, “On Saturday, there was a plan to take the helicopter to Gauchar airstrip for repair with the help of MI-17 aircraft. After covering a short distance, the balance of MI-17 started deteriorating due to the weight of the helicopter and the wind, due to which the helicopter had to land near Tharu Camp. There were no passengers or luggage in the incident. As soon as the information was received, the rescue team reached the spot and the team is inspecting the situation.”

Officials appealed to the people

Rahul Chaubey has appealed to people to avoid rumours. He said, “There were no passengers or luggage in the helicopter and there is no information about any casualties in this accident. All people are appealed not to spread rumours related to any casualties in the helicopter crash.”

What information did SDRF give

SDRF said, “Today SDRF rescue team received information through Police post Lincholi that a faulty helicopter of a private company, which was being transported from Shri Kedarnath helipad to Gauchar helipad by another helicopter, has fallen into the river at Lincholi near Tharu Camp. SDRF team has reached the spot and rescue work is underway. There is no loss of life in this incident. Search is being carried out by SDRF team.”
