Tiruvallur: A major accident took place near Kavarapetai railway station in the district on Friday evening. Here the express train hit a goods train already standing on the railway track from behind. This accident happened around 08:30 in the evening. After the accident, 12-13 coaches derailed. A fire broke out in two bogies of the train. After the accident, NDRF team reached the spot, after which relief and rescue work was done. Local people also helped in evacuating the people trapped in the train. During this period, the routes of many trains have been changed. Apart from this, a helpline number has also been issued.

Accident happened near Kavarapetai

Actually, this accident happened near Kavarapetai railway station on Chennai-Guddur section. At the time of the accident it was 08:30 in the evening. The express train hit a goods train already standing on the track. The express train which hit is said to be 12578 Mysuru-Darbhanga Bagmati Express. The train passed Ponneri station at 8.27 am and was given the green signal to run through the main line to the next station, Kavarapetai. Meanwhile this accident happened. The speed of the train at the time of the accident was 75 kilometers per hour.

According to the information received so far, a total of 12-13 coaches have derailed. People have been taken out of the train. Some people were injured and were taken to nearby hospitals. After the train accident, a helpline number has been issued by Chennai Division. These two helpline numbers are 04425354151 and 04424354995. Any information related to the injured or train accident can be obtained by calling these numbers. Apart from this, a separate train has been arranged to take the passengers home safely.
