The Delhi High Court expressed strong resentment on the comment of yoga guru Ramdev on Thursday. The court convicted him of primarily contempt for violation of the earlier order. The court said that Ramdev lives in his own world and is not under anyone’s control.
Justice Amit Bansal’s remarks came at a time when Ramdev uploaded a new objectionable video about Hamdard products despite a clear order of the court on 22 April. The court strictly stopped Ramdev from making objectionable statements or publishing the video.
Justice Bansal said, “It is a prima facie contempt based on previous orders, his affidavits and this new video.” He further commented, “He (Ramdev) is not under anyone’s control. He lives in his own world.”
The case is related to the petition filed by Hamdard National Foundation India against Yoga Guru Ramdev and Patanjali Foods Limited. It was argued by Hamdard that Ramdev, while promoting his brand Patanjali Gulab Sherbet, claimed that the profits of Ruh Afza were being used in the manufacture of madrasas and mosques.
Earlier, even in the hearing, the court expressed deep resentment over Ramdev’s syrup jihad comment and said that such comments have shook the sensitivity of the court. These comments cannot be justified in any way. Ramdev then assured the court that he would immediately remove all the videos and social media posts uploaded in this regard.
Defending his point, Ramdev claimed that he had not named any particular brand or community. He had said, “Ruh Afzah people took the syrup jihad on top of them … It means that they are doing such jihad.”
The matter was further overwhelmed when Congress leader Digvijay Singh reached the TT Nagar police station in Bhopal and demanded to register an FIR against Ramdev. He alleged that Ramdev is promoting religious hatred and hurting communal sentiments.
