The Secretary of Internal Security posted in the Union Home Ministry has been made the head of this committee. This high level committee will monitor the investigation of digital arrest and cyber fraud cases. The Union Home Minister has instructed the members of the High Level Committee to take immediate action against those committing cyber fraud so that such crimes can be curbed.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had recently mentioned the matters related to digital arrest in his Mann Ki Baat program. It is believed that as a result of this the Home Ministry has now constituted a high level committee. Let us tell you that till now more than 6 thousand cases of digital arrest have been registered across the country. Acting on these complaints, approximately 6 lakh mobile numbers involved in incidents like cyber crime and digital arrest have been blocked. Apart from this, more than 700 mobile apps have also been blocked through which digital fraud with people was carried out.
The Union Home Ministry has also ordered to freeze 3 lakh 25 thousand fake bank accounts related to cyber fraud. In digital arrest, cyber criminals first make calls and scare people by pretending to be police, CBI, Narcotics or RBI officials. After this, when the person gets scared and gets influenced by the fraudsters, then money is demanded to save him from that fake problem. This is called digital arrest. Nowadays many such cases are coming to light.
