Three people died in a road accident near Jallog in Shimla on Monday amidst heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh. According to the Shimla Disaster Management Authority, the vehicle crashed in Jallog sub tehsil, about four kilometers ahead of Jalog. Patwari and police personnel of Ogli Gram Panchayat reached the accident site.
Meanwhile, the Shimla Disaster Management Authority reported that last night, a cloudburst in Sikaseri village of Sarpara Gram Panchayat of Rampur, a room, kitchen, warehouse, a cow owned by Rajendra Kumar and a cowshed with two calves, and a cow owned by Vinod Kumar and Gopal Singh were swept away.
According to the Disaster Management Authority, 34 distribution transformers (DTRs) have come to a standstill, which disrupting power supply in Shimla. DTRs will be restored by Monday evening. Also, water supply has also been affected due to cloudburst.
Amid various incidents of property damage during heavy rains, a building collapsed in Mathu Colony on the road leading to Chambhana Super Specialty Hospital. The Shimla Disaster Management Authority said that there has been no loss of life and property in it because no one lived in it.
In many parts of Himachal Pradesh, heavy rains have caused a lot of damage, incidents of landslides, waterlogging and contact disruptions have come to light from many districts.
Revenue, Tribal Development and Horticulture Minister Jagat Singh Negi said that 34 people have lost their lives in the state since June 20 due to adverse weather and accidents.
Talking to ANI on Sunday, Negi said, “There have been a total of 34 deaths in Himachal Pradesh since June 20. Of these 17 people died due to rain -related incidents and the remaining 17 people lost their lives in road accidents.”
The minister further stated that the National Highway-5, which was closed for some time near the mill turn, has been restored for single lane traffic. He announced that he will hold a high-level review meeting on Monday with major departments including revenue, PWD, disaster management, water power and electricity to assess the monsoon preparations and restoration efforts.
He said, “After the IMD warning of continuing heavy rains, all the district disaster management authorities, revenue and police departments and the State Disaster Management Authority have been placed on high alert.” The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rains in Shimla on Monday.
