Claims of the epidemic spreading in China have raised concerns in India as well. However, the National Center for Disease Control says that there is no need for the people of India to worry about this. The situation here is completely normal.
NCDC is in touch with international agencies
The National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) is closely monitoring respiratory and seasonal influenza cases in the country, and is in touch with international agencies in the wake of recent reports of human metapneumovirus (HMPV) outbreak in China, official sources said on Friday. No need to worry in India
Director General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Atul Goyal said human metapneumovirus is like any other respiratory virus that causes the common cold, and it can cause flu-like symptoms in the young and the very old. He said “There are reports about the outbreak of human metapneumovirus (HMPV) in China. However, we have analyzed the respiratory outbreak data in the country (India) and there is no significant increase in the data for December 2024 and our “No large number of cases have been reported from any institution. There is no need to be concerned about the current situation.”
Adopt normal methods to avoid cold – Dr. Goyal
“Anyway, outbreaks of respiratory infections increase during winter, for which our hospitals are usually prepared with necessary supplies and beds,” Dr Goyal said. He advised people to adopt the usual precautions used to prevent respiratory infections, which means that if someone has cough and cold, they should avoid contact with others so that the infection does not spread.
